Introduction
Star Wars: The Old Republic, also known as SWTOR, will have a large target audience. People for whom Star Wars is the most important thing in their lives, others who know the movies and maybe one or two of the games, and even some who visit the realm of Star Wars for the first time.
All of these people habe different standards of knowledge when it comes to the backgrounds of the Star Wars universe. Some could have written the chronicles of the universe themselves, others would get into serious trouble during their first visit to the notorious cantina located in Mos Eisley.
To allow each of you to acquire similar basic knowledge about the Star Wars universe we want to employ a series of articles which will explain the most important aspects of Star Wars. Those articles are intended to allow fledgelings to participate in discussions while readers only knowing the movies surely can learn a few things, too. Veterans of the Expanded Universe probably will not find much new information, but it can never hurt to refresh existing knowledge, right?
This article will focus on the Force and those factions which are tied the closest to its fate: The Jedi and the Sith. Most likely everyone knows the blessing "May the Force be with you!" But what exactly is the Force and how does it work? Who are the Jedi and the Sith? What are their goals? And to what extent does the Force influence life in the galaxy? All these question are to be answered with this article.
